HomeBuilder Program Changes

Changes to the South Australian HomeBuilder program were announced in November 2020.

Eligible HomeBuilder grant applicants will now have six months to commence construction of their new home or renovation from the date of the contract being signed, following a blanket 3-month extension being granted earlier this week. The government has also introduced a $15,000 grant for building contracts signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, inclusive.

Changes to the HomeBuilder program include:

  • A $15,000 grant for building contracts (new builds and substantial renovations) signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, inclusive.
  • An extended deadline for all applications to be submitted, including those applying for the $25,000 grant and the new $15,000 grant. Applications can now be submitted up until 14 April 2021 (inclusive). This will apply to all eligible contracts signed on or after 4 June 2020.
  • An extension to the construction commencement timeframe from three months to six months for all HomeBuilder applicants. This will apply to all eligible contracts signed on or after 1 January 2021, but will also be backdated and apply to all contracts entered into on or after 4 June 2020.

Eligible applicants will be paid the grant as follows:

  • For new builds, the grant will be paid at the first progress payment when the footings are laid;
  • For substantial renovations, the grant will be paid once at least $150,000 of the contract price has been paid in respect of the renovation; and
  • For new home/off the plan contracts, the grant will be paid on evidence of the title transferring to the new owner
  • Applications must be received by RevenueSA by 31 December 2020.
